Systems 6.0 and later have provided ‘Style Scrap’ to exchange text data with Font/Style/Size information between applications, along with ‘Styled Text Edit’ to create such text. Unfortunately, Nisus doesn’t support this ‘Style Scrap’ function. When you copy/cut a text from Nisus and paste it to other application, and vice versa, all of style information are lost.
Scrap Converter does avoid such inconvenience. With this FKEY/Quickeys 2.1 Extension you can exchange a styled text between Nisus and other software. I hope Paragon would incorporate this function into Nisus program in a future version.
Scrap Converter does nothing when you use an application or DA not supporting ‘Style Scrap’. You can easily distinguish whether or not your software supports ‘Style Scrap’ as follows. Copy any text from the software in question and paste it to Scrapbook DA. If letters ‘styl’ appear on lower-right corner of the scrapbook window, the software is compatible with ‘Style Scrap’.

If you own Quickeys 2.1, use Quickeys 2.1 Extension version. If not, use FKEY version. You need not use both.
A) How to install Quickeys 2.1 Extension version
Simply drag Scrap Converter file to Quickeys’ Extensions Folder and restart your Macintosh. Define a new Quickey “Scrap Converter” with a key assignment your like. Once you define a Quickey, you can use it any time.
B) How to install FKEY
You can easily install Scrap Converter FKEY in your system by FKEY utility, e.g., Suitcase II or FKEY Manager. If such tool isn’t available, you can still install with ResEdit. It is recommended to restart your Mac with other start up disk before proceeding with ResEdit to avoid editing an active system. Open Scrap Converter FKEY file with ResEdit and copy the ‘FKEY’ resource. Then open your ‘System’ file and paste. ID number assigned to Scrap Converter FKEY is 4, but you may renumber it to avoid ID conflict with other FKEY. With original ID, Scrap Converter FKEY will be activated by pressing command + shift + 4.
3. How to use Scrap Converter
When you copy/cut a styled text from Nisus and paste it to other software, and vice versa, activate Scrap Converter before pasting. You will find the pasted text has the same font, the same point, the same style as original one. If a counterpart software of Nisus doesn’t support ‘Style Scrap’, Scrap Converter does nothing and a plain text is pasted.
When you copy/cut a text from Nisus and paste it to MacDraw II, activate Scrap Converter while Nisus is active. Activating Scrap Converter after switching to MacDraw II may effect nothing. Similar situation is anticipated with some other applications.
4. Technical Information
Scrap Converter converts standard ‘styl’ format to Nisus original format comprising ‘FTAB’ and ‘FRMT’, and vice versa, on the clipboard. When only ether of them is existing on the clipboard, Scrap Converter generates the other and appends it to the existing. So Nisus can exchange style information with other software.
